Currently, proprietary RAW file format images that are pulled into Photoshop (CS2 and above) can be saved to the DNG file format with all the RAW file format characteristics retained. You can also embed the original RAW file in the saved DNG file, convert the image data to an interpolated format, and vary the compression ratio of the accompanying JPEG preview image.
